Venom was created in 1988 as an archenemy of Spider-Man and first appeared as a living alien suit in 1984. The black costume—actually a sentient alien symbiote—enhanced Spider-Man's already incredible abilities, but came with some side effects. Spider-Man dumps the black suit when he discovers its nefarious nature.

However, the Venom symbiote takes up a new host, Eddie Brock, and together they become one of Spider-Man's most famous rogues. With a nearly 40-year run in Marvel Comics and several film adaptations, Venom is a fan-favorite character that has permeated popular culture.
